ELA FIDALGO

Ela Fidalgo (Palma de Mallorca, 1993) has developed a unique language using fabrics and embroidery mixed with acrylics and waxes. Fidalgo gives shape to emotions that emerge from her universe, full of questions about human behavior beyond the realms of everyday life and thought. She dedicates all her processes to caring for the individual, their reactions, and behaviors. Her research invites us to reflect on what it means to be human—in body, soul, and essence. Far from academic techniques, figurative art with naïve touches predominates in her universe, creating false collages in which the body becomes the great protagonist. She embraces imperfection because, for the artist, imperfection demonstrates creativity. Perfection does not grow; it stagnates.

She earned a scholarship to study fashion design at IED Fashion Lab Madrid, where she won awards such as the Balenciaga Prize and The Amsterdam Global Conference on Sustainability and Transparency. During her third year, she received the Fashion Talent Award at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid, and in 2018 she was a finalist at the Festival d’Hyères. Since 2016, she has focused on her artistic career and has since held three solo exhibitions.
