ARCOmadrid 2020

Geometric Nature / Biology (2011), by Daniel Steegmann Mangrané, is the title of the winning work.

On Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at ARCOmadrid, and in the presence of its director Maribel López, the IV Catalina D’Anglade Art Prize was delivered, one of the most innovative art support projects in the Spanish art scene.
Daniel Steegmann Mangrané has been the winner of this new edition with the Geometric Nature / Biology sculpture (2011), a piece of variable dimensions, composed of two sections of a longitudinally cut branch, suspended on elastic strings that go from the ground to the ceiling.

According to Catalina D’Anglade, Steegman's work “is not only indebted to the principles of design, architecture and cultural dissemination, but also marked by the commitment to the challenges of our time,” explains Catalina. "Also his career and the strength of his work, have been definitive at the time of granting the award in this edition."

Previous editions of the Prize have had as winners Fernanda Fragateiro (2017), who as a second part of the project developed a serial installation (letter for Anni), consisting of five pieces of polished steel; Secundino Hernández (2018), who turned his characteristic strokes into sculptures with a point of light. Finally, the winner in 2019 was Luis Gordillo, whose second part of the project will be presented throughout this 2020.
